Java Aspects

This pack is made for people who play Minecraft: Bedrock Edition but want the visuals to look like Java Edition. Water, explosion particles, block sounds, entity animations, item names, and so much more are changed to match Java Edition. If you're a big fan of the Java version, you'll love this pack too!

==Notes==

  • The chat and bed message changes in this update are fully compatible with the VDX: Legacy Desktop UI and Legacy Console UI packs.
  • Due to bed message changes in this update, the chat narrator will always read the English version of bed messages, regardless of language setting. This should not be an issue because the narrator is only trained for English pronunciation.
  • Step sounds are broken on Bedrock by default. Most (but not all) mobs have a hard-coded 0.15x multiplier on their step sound. However, this multiplier does NOT affect the baby mob, which uses a separate step.baby sound, causing a disparity between the baby and adult step volumes. This update fixes all broken mobs. The mobs unaffected by this issue are the chicken, pig, parrot, silverfish, spider, cave spider, and all rideable mobs (camel, llama, horse, and variants). All other mobs, including hostile mobs, are affected.
  • The shading changes in this update are more complicated than old shading, so they are explained in detail below.
    • These changes are more subtle than light source shading from previous updates. The easiest way to see the new shading is to place a Sandstone block and a Sandstone double slab next to each other. With Aspects, they look identical, but without, the Sandstone block is brighter than the double slab.
    • The shading changes in this update are related to the “brightness_gamma” property in “blocks.json”, which defaults to 1.0. Modifying this does nothing in a resource pack or in the game files, but some blocks which have a “brightness_gamma” property in the default resources have incorrect shading in-game. A value below 1.0 results in lighter side shading and less intense ambient occlusion, while values above 1.0 result in the opposite.
    • Snow and nether brick-related blocks have unique “brightness_gamma” values, but the shading and ambient occlusion are identical to normal blocks in-game.
    • The “brightness_gamma” property does not appear in the 1.20 blocks.json file, yet suspicious sand has the same lightness as normal sand.
    • Obsidian is the only block to have a functional “brightness_gamma” above 1.0, which means it is darker than normal. This requires an entirely different fix than lighter blocks because adding an “overlay_color” in “terrain_texture.json” always darkens an image. It cannot brighten one.
    • To fix obsidian, the image must be layered over itself at least once using the Screen blend with different settings for each side. Unfortunately, this is not compatible with other texture packs:
      • bottom: Add two Screen blend layers (copies of the base texture) above the base layer. Decrease the top Screen layer opacity from 255 to 128. Flatten the image, then increase saturation from 100 to 106.
      • east_west: Add one Screen blend layer above the base layer. Flatten the image, then increase saturation from 100 to 106.
      • north_south: Add one Screen blend layer above the base layer. Decrease the top Screen layer opacity from 255 to 80.
    • Crying and glowing obsidian also have unique “brightness_gamma” values, but since these blocks are light sources, the “brightness_gamma” is ignored in-game.

I was not able to reproduce this issue. Make sure you applied Java Aspects ABOVE VDX and that both packs are updated to the latest version.
1
theres a small crafting table thing in new recipes unlocked in java edition
1
This indicator exists in Java Edition because there are also recipe books for the stonecutter and furnace. However, since all recipes on Bedrock are in the crafting table already, there is no need for this indicator.
1
in java aspects programmer art can you please add the old potions textures like in console aspects
1
No, as Java Edition also changed the Programmer Art potions to use the updated colors!

I do not make major UI changes besides the HUD screen in this pack. This would be the territory of VDX: Java UI, not me.
