Hello! I really love this add-on — it feels balanced and the dog behavior is great. I also really like the cat improvements.
I have a few suggestions that could make it even better:
Neutral mob behavior
Please make dogs ignore neutral mobs like zombified piglins unless:
the player attacks first, or
the mob attacks the player
Right now, whenever I take my dog into the Nether, it immediately starts attacking zombified piglins on its own. This causes a huge problem because piglins aggro in groups, so my dog ends up getting surrounded and overwhelmed very quickly. It’s really frustrating because I’m not even trying to fight them — I just want to explore or travel — but my dog keeps starting fights I didn’t choose. This makes bringing dogs to the Nether feel risky and sometimes not worth it, even though they’re supposed to be companions.
It would be much better if dogs behaved more intelligently in this situation, only attacking when there’s a real reason to fight (like defending the player). That way, they stay helpful instead of accidentally getting themselves killed.
Elytra compatibility
When using elytra, it would be great if pets could:
sit on the player (back/shoulder), or
reliably teleport after landing
This would prevent them from getting left behind.
Armor durability (optional)
Maybe slightly increase armor durability (e.g., around 100). Not essential, just a small improvement idea.
Survivability (lifesteal)
Consider giving dogs a small lifesteal (e.g., 10 HP after defeating hostile mobs) to help them survive longer in fights.
Food healing balance
Currently, pets require a lot of food to heal. Increasing healing from items like steak or porkchop would make them easier to maintain.
That’s all — even adding one of these would be awesome. Thanks for your work on this add-on!
Thank you so much for your valuable feedback! 🥰 Hearing from players about situations I haven't been able to fully test myself is incredibly helpful.
Regarding the elytra, pet teleportation is a very difficult issue to solve. Unfortunately, having pets ride on the player's shoulder or teleport reliably after an elytra flight is impossible due to the technical limitations of Bedrock Edition.
(Shoulder riding is a hardcoded feature exclusively for parrots, and teleportation fails because the fast flight speed causes chunks to unload before the pet can catch up.)
However, your other suggestions are definitely things I can implement! I will put some more thought into the balance and apply them in an upcoming update. Thank you so much for playing and enjoying the add-on!
Thank you so much for the detailed reply!! I really appreciate you taking the time to explain the elytra limitations — that actually makes a lot of sense now.
Even if that part can’t be changed, I’m really glad to hear the other suggestions are being considered! The add-on is already amazing, so seeing it improve even more is exciting 🔥
Thanks again for your hard work on this, I’ll definitely keep playing and looking forward to future updates!
The wolf AI rework is spot on, being able to attack on their own but also being able to run away when they need to is a pretty well thought-out system. But I really like what you did for the cats, making them healers instead of just doing the same thing as wolves. This way, it actually make sense to bring both of them together.
I'll be looking forward for updates, especially for the parrots since I accidentally kill them quite easily. So maybe you can do something about that, I'm not personally a big fan of the health bar thingy, so if there's a way to toggle it off that would be cool. But I can see it being useful, so it's not that big of a deal.
Haven't tried to addon yet, but I'm hoping it's achievement friendly. If not, it would be cool to make it achievement friendly.
Thank you so much for the great review! You completely nailed my intention of giving cats and wolves different roles! My goal is to make all the animals feel like unique, three-dimensional characters with their own traits so we can all adventure together. (Kind of like an Animal Avengers! 🤣)
As for the health bar, I've actually thought about adding an on/off toggle. But since it relies on the nametag rendering system, I'm not entirely sure if I can pull it off with my current technical skills... Changing it would probably require adding a Resource Pack.
Also, good news—the add-on is already achievement-friendly! Feel free to test it out for yourself in-game!
Writing this after the 1.0.2 update, you blew my expectations away for the Parrot rework!
I've always had pets follow me after I downloaded this pack, they actually feel like useful companions instead of statues or decorations that are just sitting around.
Regarding the latest update, I have nothing but praises so far. You honestly over delivered with the Parrots that I had asked for, They're very easy to maneuver now, whereas it had been a difficult and tedious process trying to get them off my shoulder and have them sit somewhere.
The whole health bar thing also isn't really an issue, It started growing on me the more I played.
Thank you so much for listening to my request! Excited to see what unique features the next batch of pets would have.
No way, good this addon is the best :0
Makes the swarming enemies be controlled by your wolfs, tho the creepers are still a problem, damaging my wolfs a little when they're retreating, but honestly it really works!
Suggestion: now that we have wolf, i may suggest that the cat can also helps us, like attacking and targeting only the creepers to scare them off and make them run away, only thing their damage can be lower like 6 or 8, but only if the creeper is not going to explode, if that happens: the cat will do the same thing as the wolfs by retreating quickly, so the cats do not get blown up in the front of the creepers because one was able to get closer to you and succefully surprise you with a explosion :0
After all, they can once attack the creeper to acare them off and you be able to damage them and finish them with your bow and arrows :D
Cool addon btw!
Thank you so much for the amazing compliment! As a beginner developer, every single piece of feedback like this is incredibly helpful and makes me so happy.
Regarding your suggestion about cats attacking creepers, it might be a bit difficult to implement safely. In the game's logic, if a cat actually attacks a creeper, the creeper's AI prioritizes "retaliation" over "running away." This means the creeper would target the cat and explode, putting the poor cat in extreme danger!
However, I really love the idea of actively driving creepers away. I will definitely think more about if there is a safe way to make that happen in future updates.
Thanks again for the great idea and for enjoying the add-on!
You're right... dang, my bad ;n;
Still, i love now how the cats are healers now... needed a healer because sometimes i'm out of food for myself when inside of the caves lol... so this is even better! :)
Also, Ocelots being tameable?! Now this gives me funny memories lol: i remember trying to tame one after years of not playing MC, finding out it's not the same as before and you need to find true cats to tame one, finding out you only gain their trust and not follow you lolol
Anyways, thanks for explaining me, and thanks for the update! 😊
Edit: had to read more... i like the idea of giving also the wolves fish, so good when i'm fishing in the caves >:)
