The Porsche 924 is with no doubt an exceptional Porsche. Developed by Porsche in the 1970's as an engineering consultant commissioned by Volkswagen, the 924 was meant to be a flagship coupe to be later badged under either Volkswagen or Audi. For the better or for the worst, but in hindsight probably the former, the project dubbed internally as "Project 425" would later on prove to be too cost-extensive for Volkswagen amidst the 1973 Oil Crisis, which subsequently led to Porsche taking over the rights to the project. And just like what 20th-century Porsche does the best, "Project 425" would undergo major intensive and intricate engineering perfection. This, would subsequently lead to Porsche unveiling a revolutionary water-cooled front-engine, rear-wheel-drive machine, named the Porsche 924. A far-cry in terms of architecture when compared to Porsche's previous 912 and 914 models, and initially considered heresy by critics, the Porsche 924 of 1976 was at best, just an above average machine, even in the entry-level sportscar market. It wasn't until 1978 when executives over in Porsche decided to step up their game. 1978 would see the Porsche 924 be outfitted with a turbocharger, further increasing its performance and would soon be met with high praise by the automotive community for its supercar-performance, exemplary handling and of course for its impeccable build quality.
