Vanilla Rebalanced Addon

I have played minecraft for years. One thing I never liked in the game was how the armor works. Diamond and iron are the only relevant armors to use for protection. Gold armor is too expensive for how weak it is, chain and leather armor are just very weak and not worth the effort to get. I decided to change that. Now every armor set is changed to be more viable, while diamond is still the best. This addon makes it so that you can craft armor at all stages of the game.

In this image, you can see all of the new armors that have replaced vanilla armors (I can’t add any new armor yet due to addon limitations)

Armor names from left to right as shown in picture:

  • Wooden Armor
  • Iron Armor
  • Redstone Armor
  • Cobblestone Armor
  • Diamond Armor

One thing I really did not like about the vanilla armor system, is that the armor recipes were not worth it for how lacking the defense was in some instances. With this addon all armor power better reflects the materials needed:

  • Wooden is weakest armor. Easy to make, but low protection
  • Cobblestone is slightly better than wood
  • Iron is the next strongest (I decided to slightly nerf iron)
  • Redstone is next in protection strength, as an iron pick is needed to mine redstone (I may change this)
  • Diamond is still the best armor, due to diamonds being end-game items.
My reasoning for these power shifts and redesigns of armors is simple, I wanted all the armors to be relevant in the game.

Crafting for these armor sets is like vanilla just with the respective material.

In the image above, you can see how redstone armor is crafted just like regular armor only with redstone dust instead. The leggings are an example.

In this picture, you can see how any wooden plank type may be used to craft all of the wooden armor pieces.

The cobblestone armor is crafted with only cobblestone. This picture shows what it is like making the helmet of the set. Note: Currently only cobblestone is used as an option in the recipe.

Wooden armor is able to be dyed to any color. Here are the steps to do so:

  1. Get a cauldron full of clean water and wooden armor you want to dye
  2. Interact on the cauldron with dyes to change the water color until you reach a good looking color. This does not have to be just one dye color at a time. Dye colors can be mixed and matched to create endless colors.
  3. With the right colored water, select the wooden armor pieces. With them in hand, interact on the cauldron water to dye the wooden armor
  4. Note: you can wash wooden armor if you interact with it on clean cauldron water.

Final information: If you have any suggestions on how to balance the armor even better, then leave them in the comments. I’m considering changing the redstone armor and diamond armor, but I would like to know what everyone else thinks. This addon also should be compatible with 99% of addons, unless one of them changes armor in some way. Also please, please, please do NOT forget to enable experimental gameplay in the world.

Update V2; Retexture Update:

I changed several textures. The first version is still available for download. V1 behaviors is also still the only version of behaviors.

  • Redstone armor has it’s own unique texture when worn now
  • Wooden armor and cobblestone armor have more contrast now to make the edges more clear

Update V3; The Green Update:

This update actually changes some more features. Gold tools are replace with cactus tools. You may now use cactus to make these new tools. I did this because gold breaks fast, and the gold pickaxe only can mine coal and stone. I also made it so you can no longer make diamond armor. Instead, you have to make emerald armor. The top row of item frames showcases all of the cactus tools. The bottom row of item frames and the armor stand are showing emerald armor. Please do note: previous versions of this addon are still available for download.

Can you put emerald tools in please also the emerald armor is weaker than the diamond

Awesome creation, except I would really like for you to add diamond armor back in a future version and emerald armor as the strongest with diamond following behind emerald armor. Also, replace cactus tools with anything but cactus, please.

    Weird names like raven head

    Other than that great!

But then again you can get them from trading villagers that makes a little bit of sense now

Wait emeralds are harder to get then diamonds only really lucky people will be able to get emerald armor diamond are less hard to find you just need to dig a lot and go deep underground near the bedrock and then dig out tunnels to find diamonds but emeralds are only found in extreme cliffs and there still rare so i don’t see how emerald armor makes much sense but that’s just my opinion

Are the names surposed to be the same as the crafting recipe is different but the name is the same.

Hey i dont know how to add a addon help??

  10. IMega says:

The mod is great, adds perfect balance, but it would be cooler if you added emerald armor, its the rarest ore you can find and it has no use other than trading with villagers

  11. Nobo says:

For some reason the behavior pack isn’t working and the armor is just retextured standard armor. Not sure if this is intentional, because the screenshots show new crafting recipes. Reply and tell me if I don’t get how the add-on works or if it’s a real problem. Still some really good textures though anyway.

    • If you check the instructions it clearly shows how to install. Make sure you are on 1.12 with experimental gameplay and BOTH packs installed. I have tested this mod on three different devices and it works on all of them.

  18. RandomPersonGuy says:

How long have I waited for a mod like this.. There should be more types of armor in future updates so that other materials in Minecraft could be worth mining for.

  19. CyanideEXE says:

    Nobody asked for this…

Cool idea! I actually think there is a way to make separate armor with the add on. In the resource pack folder, there is a way to create a new attachable, meaning a new armor JSON script. If you want more info, let me know! Still very cool!

Wow! Imagine wearing something you crafted out of dust (redstone dust)! It’s super realistic! (Sarcastic the whole way from the beginning to the end of the comment) 24 redstone dust, almost 3 redstone blocks! Obviously you can make redstone boots out of dust of an ore! Why don’t you try to remove hoes before armor, Creator? They are practically useless in every other way except for durability and farming. Cobblestone armor? A cobble block is 1 meter by 1 meter. If I’m correct, then that is one meter cubed of stone. So as 1 cobblestone is 1 stone block, I believe nothing is dropped in conversion (they take up the same space). It’s basically 6×4 meters of stone. Now try putting THAT on your body! JK, people in Minecraft can carry gold blocks which are heavier than stone. But still, can’t you stick to what MC has done? Now hear me here ——> YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO USE BLOCKS TO CRAFT ARMOR. IT’S JUST WRONG. And that last sentence is my point.

I’m probably not going to go back here to see the replies to my comment, so don’t try responding, as I won’t use this Addon. Ever.

But hey, I can congratulate you on having good grammar and spelling. GG (Good Grammar).

    Looks cool

  23. Wah says:

I wonder how does redstone dust can be made out of armor? It’s dust!

    • Yeah it’s a little weird, but I mean minecraft is not the most realistic game ever. I kinda did it because I figured it made sense since iron is needed to mine redstone, plus redstone can be kinda useless if you don’t make a lot of redstone builds, or brew a lot of potions.
